Conybeare Law Office Attorney Sasha Boersma has been busy volunteering as a judge at various mock trial competitions throughout the state. Last fall she judged law students at the National Trial Advocacy Competition co-sponsored by the Michigan and American Bar Associations’ Young Lawyer’s Division in Pontiac, Michigan.
On St. Patrick’s Day, Sasha judged the Kent County Regional of the Michigan High School Mock Trial Competition, which is sponsored by the Michigan Center for Civic Education. Locally, St. Joseph High School competed at this regional competition – Congratulations St. Joseph High School!
Last weekend, Kalamazoo Central High School took first place at the State Final. They will represent Michigan in the National High School Mock Trial Competition for the 20th time! Kalamazoo Central High School took second place in the National Competition last year. No other team in America has advanced to the National Championship Competition more times than Kalamazoo Central High School. Mock trial helps student develop important knowledge about the law and legal system and it develops critical thinking and speaking skills. Sasha competed in mock trial at Western Michigan University and Valparaiso University School of Law. She’s glad to be volunteering in a program that has provided her so much over the years.
