Of Counsel
Bob Schlacks is of counsel to Conybeare Injury Law. He worked with Barry Conybeare at Conybeare Injury Law starting in October 2022. In August 2026, with Barry’s support, Bob and another Conybeare Injury Law attorney, Nate Harrington, formed Southwest Michigan Injury Lawyers. The lawyers at the two firms share a close relationship and collaborate often.
Bob graduated from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago, now the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law, and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Eastern Illinois University.
After law school, Bob worked with a personal injury firm in Chicago representing individuals injured in automobile collisions, dog bites, and premises liability actions. He worked closely with his clients, their healthcare providers, billers, health insurance companies, and liability insurers to resolve claims and tried cases when insurers refused a reasonable settlement.
While Bob was building his career, he was building a family as well. After welcoming their first two children, Bob and his wife decided to relocate from Chicago to southwest Michigan, where they first met and where Bob was born and spent his summers. He joined the Berrien County Public Defender Office in 2019. In the three and a half years he practiced criminal defense, he honed his litigation skills representing over 600 clients charged with misdemeanor and felony violations. He successfully defended multiple clients, securing not guilty verdicts at trial.
With the addition of two more children born after coming home to Michigan, Bob decided to return to his civil litigation roots. He joined Conybeare Law Office, which provided an ideal opportunity for Bob’s growth both personally and professionally. It is there he met and began working with Nate Harrington. After three years with the Conybeare firm, Bob and Nate coordinated with Barry Conybeare to open their own firm, Southwest Michigan Injury Lawyers, and continue representing injured clients.
Outside of work, Bob is on the Berrien County Bar Association executive board and can be found at AYSO soccer games, occasionally coaching.
