Tim Kragt was admitted to the State Bar of Michigan in 1973. He is a 1969 graduate of Hope College and earned a law degree, with honors, at Wayne State University. For 35 years, Tim focused his personal injury practice in the areas of worker’s compensation and Social Security Disability claims. Tim earned a peer review rating of “AV” for highest professional ability by Martindale-Hubbell and in 2008 was named a Michigan Super Lawyer.
A founding member of the Smit & Kragt law firm, Tim’s professional affiliations over the years included the Berrien County Bar Association; State Bar of Michigan; Michigan Association for Justice; Michigan Attorney Grievance Commission; Federal Bar Association and American Bar Association. He was admitted to practice in all Michigan courts, as well as the federal courts in the Western District of Michigan and Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Tim presented numerous seminars for the Institute of Continuing Education as well as labor organizations in the areas of worker’s compensation and Social Security Disability. In 2009, after 35 years of practice, Tim and his partner, Len Smit, merged their law firm with Conybeare Law Office.
Tim is active in civic and community affairs, having served on the board of directors and as president of the St. Joseph/Benton Harbor YMCA. He is a life member of the NAACP and has been a member of the St. Joseph Elks Club and the Exchange Club; is a Boy Scouts of America Committeeman and Merit Badge Counselor; and is a youth mentor in the Y Uncle program.
Tim is enjoying retirement with his wife, Linda. They like reading, traveling, photography, golfing and spending time with their two children and six grandchildren.
