Sasha Boersma Returns to Mock Trial Competitions as Volunteer Judge

Conybeare Injury and Accident Lawyers Attorney Sasha Boersma has returned to what she refers to as “mock trial land,” but this time as a volunteer judge. Anticipating a career as a litigation attorney, she competed on Western Michigan University’s Mock Trial Team and Valparaiso University School of Law’s Trial Advocacy Team while attending school. The experience was invaluable and helped her excel in both her classes and career. When the call for volunteer judges went out, she responded, eager to pay forward the mentoring she had received as a student.

Last week she presided over the local Classical Conversations Home School Middle School mock trial competition held at the Berrien County Courthouse. You can read the Herald Palladium story about this event here. She also judged law students in the National Trial Advocacy Competition co-sponsored by the Michigan and American Bar Associations’ Young Lawyer’s Divisions last fall in Lansing and in the Midwest Regional National Trial Competition co-sponsored by the American College of Trial Lawyers and Texas Young Lawyers Association at her alma mater Valparaiso University School of Law in January.

These experiences have given her a newfound appreciation for the attorneys who judged her while she was a mock trial competitor. Sasha is glad to be giving back and mentoring the next generation of attorneys.
