Conybeare Law Office Attorney Ray Steadmon recently co-founded the Portage Parks Foundation. The new 501(c)(3) will work to raise funds to implement the goals, activities, and projects of the City’s Parks and Recreation Department. The Foundation is in its early stages, but the Board is already looking to the important work ahead. “Now that the hard part is over, we can do the fun stuff of getting things done,” said Ray, who now serves as the Foundation’s Vice President. He hopes that one of their first projects will be updating the old playground equipment across the city.
Ray took on this project because cities do not always have the funds to operate everything – they need volunteers to make a community thrive. He chose to become involved with the Portage’s parks, because so many people love and use them, including his own family. He understands that if citizens want to have things to enjoy in their community, they need to get involved. Ray encourages everyone to do so, saying, “Just be involved in something, because when you get involved in the right community, you do make a difference.”
